Creation Care Ministry

The Creation Care Ministry seeks to grow in faith by recognizing that God’s creation is a precious resource that God has entrusted to us and has called us to protect the good of all the earth and its inhabitants.  We believe that it is a privilege to nurture and care for God’s earth, air, water, land, and sea creatures. As Christians, we are called to love and protect all these things created by God.

Frederick Road Cleanup

First Lutheran is responsible for a three-mile stretch of Frederick Road near the church, as an ongoing part of serving our community. Clean-up events are held twice a year, in the spring and the fall.

Rain Gardens

Rain gardens help reduce pollution running off the church property and reduce the potential for flooding in the neighborhood.  These gardens are also intended to help us learn to respect and care for God’s Creation.  Just like life, gardens and wildlife can be messy, unpredictable, and amazing!

Volunteers are needed to monitor (weeds, mulch, trash), prune dead and broken branches, cut back perennials, edge and deep water garden, pull weeds, “deadhead” asters, coneflowers, leaf removal, divide plants and harvest, and clean sediment from rocks.

Faith Formation

Playing in God’s Story Teachers

Volunteers make children’s faith formation at First not only possible, but exciting, educational, and fun! There are opportunities to help teach or assist with Sunday faith formation classes, aid in service projects, or decorate classrooms, as well as various other roles.

Affirmation of Baptism Teachers

Affirmation of Baptism (formerly known as Confirmation) is a three-year faith-forming journey for anyone in the 6th grade or higher.
