Health Ministry

Journey to Jerusalem/Lose 40 pounds in 40 Days Challenge begins in February. As we spiritually reflect on Lent, our Health Ministers encourage you to engage in healthy activities and lose weight. Our 40 day challenge is that the congregation as a whole loses 40 pounds (not each person individually!). So lace up your tennis shoes, get your golf clubs, and bsketballs ready, start knitting, rocking, dancing or swimming! An activity of 20 minutes equals one mile.
Send us your mileage and pounds lost here!

We have journeyed 1537 miles. We have crossed the Sahara and our last night was spent in an oasis. Even though we have lost 28 pounds, we celebrated the crossing with a feast. After the feast, pastor Gigi had an interesting encounter with one of the camel drivers. He told her that since she was leading the caravan and was a holy person he would tell her the mystery, passed down through the ages, of her camel. This camel, marked with a cross on its head is a direct descendent of the three that carried the wise men to the stable in Bethlehem.

We have reached Tripoli, the largest city and principle seaport in Libya. The United States was twice involved in war with Libya and in 1986 led an air strike against that country. We are preparing to board our boats and sail on the Mediterranean Sea.

The church is a natural place to foster a holistic approach to health and well being. Holistic health encompasses wellness of the body, mind and spirit, because healing can occur in the absence of a cure.

The Health Ministry team was formed a year ago by health professionals who wanted to promote health in body, mind and spirit within the congregation. Led by Parish Nurse Sally Seen, this ministry focuses on healing, preventive care, health maintenance and personal responsibility for a healthy lifestyle. Serving as health educator, counselor, and a referral source, the health minister is an integrator of health and healing. Beyond helping parishioners gain access to care, the health minister helps them become better partners in the management of their health and to understand the relationship of faith and health.

We achieve this by offering various health education seminars, a monthly blood pressure screening, yearly Influenza clinics, exercise promotion programs, individual health counseling and various forms of written health information.

  • Members of the team offer blood pressure screenings every First Sunday of the month after the 8:30 and 10:00 services.
  • We also sponsor the Flu Vaccine Clinic and offers health education to various groups in the congregation. If you want health information, ask a Health Minister.
