Sunday School Sunday Church School is offered during the school year from September -May for children ages 3 years through adults. Classes meet on Sunday mornings from 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Staffed by energetic volunteers, our Sunday school reaches children through games, drama, crafts, and storytelling. Children in the elementary grades begin to learn about using their Bibles as a resource. Visitors are welcome! To register, please go to the Sunday School office downstairs in the Christian Education Building and ask to speak with the Sunday School Superintendent. Interested in becoming a Sunday school teacher? Contact Jenny! Curriculum--We use FaithWeaver curriculum published by Group Publishing. Parents can check out the Home Connect pages on the FaithWeaver web site to discuss the lessons at home with their children! Gathering Time takes place each Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary for 1st-6th grades. This time is for music, prayers, offering, and special celebrations. At 9:30 a.m. children are dismissed with their teachers to their classrooms. Preschool and Kindergarten children meet in their classrooms on the first floor of the Christian Ed building. Adult Bible Studies take place in the Social Hall and Resource Room. Volunteer/Child Protection Policy -- First Lutheran has a volunteer/child protection policy and training for teachers and helpers. We value a safe program for our children and volunteers. Service Projects are also a part of the Sunday School experience. This school year we are raising money and collecting soup labels for the Navajo Lutheran Mission. During the 2008-2009 school year, we made Prayer Bears to send to children in need who close to home and also to those who live faraway. The social ministry committee will also be lending a hand to the 3rd-High School grades by sponsoring small businesses in impoverished countries through the KIVA project. Each year we learn a great deal about what it means to serve God through sharing our gifts with others. In 2007 we raised over $2000 towards the Tanzania well project. In 2006, the Sunday school collected $911 for Heifer International. We were able to purchase a cow, llama, sheep, and chicks for families in impoverished countries.
